What Does It Mean To Be UPROOTED?

Being UPROOTED is losing one’s cultural identity to the extent that you feel you no longer belong to group or a community. Whether it’s because of relocations, multi-cultural heritage, globalization, History, etc., you have lost your bearings and feel confused or lack confidence. You might feel disconnected, lonely, lost, unhappy, angry, or anxious. You no longer know who you are, or where you belong, and this situation is affecting your family, professional and social life.

Why Is This Important To Me?

Because of my story and my history. I am not alone, and you are not alone. I had the experience of being UPROOTED in so many ways and was able to overcome it and be successful.

Because of the way we are living today, a lot of people are UPROOTED. The society is losing its foundations. We, as uprooted beings, need to work at finding our true and unique self.

Because our current world is impacting how we feel about ourselves. So, it is important to figure out who we truly are and have confidence in who we are. This requires to work on reconnecting with our ROOTS, and our foundations.

Because being uprooted can affect your mental and physical health if ignored or not addressed.

My Story

About Me...

Born and raised in Cote d’Ivoire (West Africa) from a mixed heritage of Ivorian and French parents. At seventeen I moved alone to Europe due to political upheaval in my home country. I spent 13 years in France, continuing my education while relocating every two years to a new city. In 2002, I began my U.S. adventure; I now live in Littleton, Colorado, with my husband, our teenage son, and our dog Scooby. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, discovering new culinary experiences, taking long walks, practicing yoga and meditation, painting, and reading.

My Career...

My career path has been as colorful as my life journey. When I was young, my favorite activity was to solve puzzles and, in school, I quickly came to love math and physics. I always enjoyed the challenge of resolving a math problem, and physics labs were like recess for me: creative and fun. So, naturally, I became a research scientist, working in the pharmaceutical field, first in academia and then industry, where I developed new drugs for cancer patients. I have worn many hats in my 20 years of experience, from scientist to project manager, to group leader, and, more recently, to an executive in a multi-national company.

Over the years, I have developed a strong sense of ethics, problem-solving skills, a scientific methodology, excellent cross-functional teamwork skills, an adaptability to manage projects across continents, and a nimble set of strategies in response to an everchanging economy. What I’ve enjoyed most have been the interactions with my colleagues, being part of a team and working together to make a difference, mentoring junior colleagues, and seeing their careers evolve.

How I Became a Life Coach and Cultural Coach?

Well, through numerous and diverse life transitions, I have learned something new about myself each time that has made me stronger. To overcome each major life transition, I had to go back to who I was and what was important to me: Authenticity and Legacy.

This was very challenging because I was continuously culturally uprooted. How could I be authentic when I was so much disconnected from my roots? I went on a quest to find my roots. And by doing so I was able to reestablish my roots and find myself once again. My biggest challenge had been to accept all my diversities. Understanding it and embracing it was liberating! I no longer felt inadequate, disconnected, lonely, or even angry. Finally, I was FREE, and I want to share that taste of freedom, what I have learned and the skills that I have acquired in reestablishing my roots with the rest of the world. And that is how I became a cultural and life coach. I founded Nuancer Coaching, where I partner with clients who are culturally UPROOTED and want to reconnect with their roots, so that they can embrace their authenticity and live from a place of freedom.

I am at a stage of my life where I want live more purposefully. I have had the academic success and the professional success. I now want to make a different impact. When I look at our society today, I see more and more people facing a cultural identity crisis. I see it everywhere around me and my mission right now is just to start bringing awareness and to create a safe place for people to come together and talk about this because there weren't resources for me, and I did all of this on my own. I want to offer people that are UPROOTED the support they need so that they too can start their journey of reestablishing their ROOTS and move forward with their lives from a place of acceptance, clarity and confidence.
